Why have Christian organizations remained silent about Mel this time, but supported him 4 years ago?

When The Passion of the Christ came out, I commented then at my disappointment in my Christian brothers and sisters for rallying behind Mel Gibson and his movie—with his shocking, anti-Semitic portrayal of hook-nosed, money-grubbing Jews clamoring for the blood of Jesus.

It is equally disappointing that they have failed to condemn Mel, whom they once regarded as a champion of Christian values, when he has been exposed as an anti-Semite, a racist, an alleged domestic abuser, and a man who can abandon his devoted wife of 28 years and the mother of his seven children.
When The Passion came out, I said that Mel Gibson is a religious charlatan and a pious fraud. I take no pleasure in having been proven right. This is a new era of Jewish and Christian brotherhood, and Christians ought to condemn those who seek to return us to a time of Christian hatred of Jews.
I believe that many Christian leaders, having made the mistake of getting behind Mel Gibson for The Passion, have boxed themselves into a corner. They fear that repudiating Mel would be a repudiation of their past support of the film.
