Would Jesus Oppose Gays and be Silent on Porn?
Here’s a glimpse of religion in America. All gays all the time. It seems that there is nothing else that can capture the spiritual imagination of this nation. Jesus came to the world to stop the damned gays. He had precious little else to say.
Forget the fact that we Americans are desperate to be liberated from our materialism and narcissism. Or that our youth are clamoring for anything other than American Idol to inspire them. We clerics will get around to it just as soon as we stop them gays.
The latest installment in the American obsession with gay marriage comes from Miss California, Carrie Prejean, who said in the Miss Universe competition that she opposes gay marriage and was immediately championed as a Christian heroin throughout America. But it seems that her Christianity could not find expression in preventing her from posing topless for men or having the Miss Universe pageant pay for her breast implants. Now I ask you honestly, what is a bigger threat to heterosexual marriage today? Gay marriage or porn? When a wife waits alone in bed for her husband who is downloading pictures of naked women on his laptop, do you really believe she consoles herself by thinking, “Well at least those gays can’t marry”?
For all my Christian brothers and sisters who scapegoat gays for undermining the institution of marriage, I would remind them that we straight people have done a mighty fine job of destroying it ourselves, thank you very much. The gay population in the United States is at most ten percent while the heterosexual divorce rate is more than fifty percent and has been so well before gay rights ever became a national issue.
The foremost danger to marriage in our time is the wholesale degradation of women in the popular culture. In magazines, on TV, and especially on Internet porn, women are portrayed as the libidinous man’s plaything, not an equal to be respected but a subordinate to be used. On college campuses male womanizing is an expected right of passage. Why devote yourself to one woman when Idiotic shows like The Bachelor reinforce the idea that the rich and good-looking guy get to have a harem. Even well-meaning women like Miss California who participate in porn become complicit in their own degradation and further the male view that a woman’s principle purpose is to satiate male erotic needs.
Beauty pageants don’t help much either and it’s surprising that my Christian clerical brothers haven’t spoken out against them as they have gay marriage. Can you believe that sixty years after feminism rightly pointed out that a woman’s mind is even more important than her legs we still have televised contests of women parading around in their underwear for Donald Trump to rate their bodies? And what would Jesus say about Miss California’s implants? Would he endorse the message that women ought to stuff their chests with silicon to appear as perfect male eye-candy, or would he emphatically declare that beauty is not merely skin deep?
How any of this congruent with Christian values is beyond me, but it seems that we’ve entered some weird Twilight Zone where opposition to gay marriage alone makes one into a Christian in good standing.
Look. I’m not here to condemn Carrie Prejean and I can of course be just as religiously inconsistent. But my point is that America has real problems and can really use an authentic spiritual voice to lead us out of the shallowness, greed, divorce, and teen sex that are plaguing our country. And so long as we make gay marriage the only issue of importance we abscond our moral responsibility to provide spiritual leadership to a starving generation. Most of all we shift our focus away from combating the misogyny that has become such a central staple of American culture.
Patti Stanger, Bravo’s Millionaire Matchmaker, and I recently debated in Los Angeles in front of 1100 young people about Patti’s belief that women ought to marry rich husbands. I argued that this just fuels the stereotype of women as greedy gold-diggers prepared to sell themselves as a commodity to a guy with cash. When men come to believe these stereotypes it affects their respect for women. Soon they believe that can they can neglect their wives as long as they give them credit cards. But three quarters of all divorces today are initiated by wives who are making their own money and would rather be alone than remain with a distant husband in an empty marriage. The most influential TV show over the past decade was Sex in the City where four female friends have nearly given up on men and turn to each other for intimate companionship instead. As for married women in America, approximately thirty percent are on an anti-depressant and Maureen Dowd of the New York Times scored big by publishing a book suggesting that perhaps women are better off without men.
As for the guys, well, the only ones who still want to get married are gay. While the gay men are out petitioning the Supreme Court for the right to get hitched, the straight guys are inventing brilliant excuses not to wed their girlfriends with whom they have lived for years and even have children. It’s curious that Brad Pitt proclaims that he and Angeline Jolie, who admirably have six kids together, will only get married when all people, gays included, can wed. But that has not stopped him from adopting children even though in most states gays can still not adopt. Which just goes to show you that when a man wants to find reasons to stay single he becomes as bright as Einstein.
We can save marriage in America and get men to become gentlemen who treat women like ladies. But that must be accompanied by women not only demanding male respect, but respecting themselves as well.

Rabbi Why Jesus can you in any way substantiate your belief in his existence? No you cannot that is because you are a apostate? But why Jesus, Why not Mother Mary? Can you justify an appeal to Mohammed? Can you justify the holiness of the Koran, would you could you justify its truth that it is from god, which you base your traitorous belief in Jesus? Well the Koran and hadith guess what is fiction! Every story is derivative and can be traced to its source that definitively predates the Koran, even the so called pure arabic is only a localized dialect, the koranic arabic is so not pure it has 2000 aramiac words inside its covers, and was not put down to paper for two hundred years after the supposed life of the make believe prophet. Funny how Orthodox Rabbis deny the Rabbinate to Non-Orthodox when the reality is they are far from righteous, as they too believe in Jesus and are traitors and apostates. Jesus was and is make believe. Someone who believes in him is an idol worshiper. So Rabbis do not believe that he stood up and flew away but they believe in the rest which is fiction pure and simple, as mother goose is fiction. My grandmothers generation would have starved than put treif to their lips, but even the Orthodox and then even the Orthodox Rabbinate believe in the completely unsubstantiated man god. Rabbi Boteach can you without making a fool out of yourself back it up with some scholarship? I thought not because you would then have to rely on christianity and its apologians. If as a Rabbi you bring in Rambam as support, where does Rambam get his information from, myth and rumor given in extreme duress? If Rabbis can get this wrong so very wrong, maybe they are wrong about so much, how did so many Rabbis get out of Europe when their whole towns ended up in Auschwitz? Rabbis who abandoned their flock, who loved and honored them like their own parents. In my understanding every Rabbi who accepts traditional christianity in any form religion proper or history is a traitor and apostate. If an Orthodox Rabbi or Messianic psuedo Rabbi both agree that Jesus existed, the christian storyline both are apostates and both are worthless and detrimental to Jews and the Jewish people.

If they in fact believe in Jesus with ALL THEIR HEART, if they believe Jesus is GOD, is that not more important than being faithful to people? And why are you relating belief in Christ with the holocaust? The fact that someone believes in Christ has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE HOLOCAUST. You need to separate the two. Separate the two or this conversation is totally absurd, I won’t even continue, but will just pray for you. Christians are not responsible for the holocaust. We believe it was horrible and unfair. You are mistaken. I wonder whos been spreading this ridiculous rumor… and why…I wonder why… if one believes in Jesus, that He is GOD, than this person MUST be faithful to HIM FIRST. 1st commandment, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your might…” Not love your neighbor, or this person, this people, or american people, or black people or jewish people, then think about God. No, love God, be faithful to God FIRST, so then they were in fact doing what Jehova told them to do. Love GOD first, not religion, not race, not family, not community, remember Isaac? Abraham was going o sacrifice his own son. Why? Because GOD COMES FIRST. If Jesus is GOd and the jews believed it (1/3 of jews accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord Jehovah at the time of Christ 2009 years ago)then they did not betray their fellow jews!!!The tragedy was awful and very sad. ut they believed Jesus, they chose GOD. That is the right choice according to the Torah. GOd chose Abraham, then the jewish people, jewish people did not choose God. Don’t you think God has the power to do whatever he wants??? Must HE obey your finite mind? He is INFINITE. If He CAN do what He chooses then if He wants to he can come to AS MAN, easy as pie to HIM who gives and takes away! To open our eyes, redeem those who trust in HIM. By the way, We understand God is ONE. What we call Trinity, is ONE. Its is because Jehova chose to come to earth to speak to people, to ALL OF US IN PERSON. Did not Abraham hear from God and see an image of God? What is that? If God can do that, can He not be born as man if he wants to? An TEACH US A FEW LESSONS? YES, HE CAN, AND YES HE DID INDEED!!! AND FULFILL THE PROPHECIES and then redeem peple from what happened in the Garden of Eden in Genesis. Therefore what was done in the garden is Void in Jesus Christ. We still must obey laws. As in Matthew 5:17-18.

I am interested in the Rabbi and Jews first and foremost. Obama is at this moment selling Jews down the river. This more important than your make believe god man or the fiction called the NT and the fictional “Old Testament” that goyim base upon the hebrew Tanach. The Holocaust six million Jews every single one was killed by a Christian, in a Christian country, on a Christian continent. It was Christian England and Christian America and Christian Latin America that denied Jews any escape until their numbers were sufficiently decimated. The basis for this hate is the NT and its 450 anti-semitic incidents in only a book of approx. 250 pages. All of it proven fiction, there were no perfidious Jews because it was fiction. I just read a book by Marianne Palmer Bonz that shows how and why the author of Luke used Virgil’s Aenead as a model for a new christian epic Luke-Acts. Not from god, would god use the often mistranslated greek Septuagint when writing a christian epic, I guess he would if he didn’t know hebrew which the writer of Luke-Acts surely did not. As for your feelings about god, yes I dismiss them as the rantings of the immature, feelings are not reality, insecurity is reality, death is a reality, feelings mean nothing, husbands and wives love each other but then there is a 50% divorce rate, feelings are fleeting, feelings for Apollo, Zeus, Jupiter transferred to another make believe man god. so what, Love your neighbor is Leviticus 18:19, because everthing in the NT is derivative, from, Jews, Cynic, Stoic, Pythagorean, Platonic, Aristotelian, everything, the myth are taken right fron Egyptian reliefs. Prophesies you allude to are taken out of context but then all of Christianity is out context except that it is a pagan religion, reworked in a pagan environment.
Your thinking reminds me of a marble caught in tthe overhead, read something else, learn hebrew or greek or read people who know and you be surprised. Again why are the people that man god saves named Lucky, God Helps, Raised Up, it that not a clue. Read Homer I’m sure in High School you did, you will some real imitation and emulation, a book by Dennis MacDonald The homerica Epic and the Gospel Mark would help you sort it all out. Everything you site Garden of Eden, etc is all myth, never happened, but even in the Genesis you site for original sin, there is no original sin, there is no punishment of eternal damnation, but there is such a punishment in a Jewish intertestamental source, also non-canonical, of such a punishment, don’t you see why you are so ignorant, 1500 years of book burning and burning heretics at the stake, torture in the dungeons for heresy, expulsions, and exterminations for Jews and witches, do you believe in witches too. Even the translation of your fictional Bible was forebidden uner penalty of death until a few hundred years ago. Please explain the 12000 documented Jews who were burnt at the stake in Spain’s Inquisition and the additional 75000 tortured and left to rot in dungeons. If you want to be helpful protest against Obama our LIAR (I am not a muslim, he obviously was and is) president who is looking to sell Israel down the river. -

Regardless of whether Jesus, Allah, Buddha, etc existed, they still have teachings ascribed to them. Those who follow those teachings are their disciples. Those who use their teachings for their own ends like Queen Isabella, Hitler, or Popes and other leaders that do nothing to prevent holocausts, etc are apostates. I would imagine a just God keeps a special place in the hellfire for those who excuse their evil by saying it was done in his name.
Additionally it is not appropriate to judge any belief by its abuse. Yes many people collaborated with evil. Some Jews turned their fellows in to the Nazis to prevent their own deportation. Dietrich Bonheoffer, leader of the German Confessing Church movement that stood against Hitler, did not. He even returned to Germany from the safety of the U.S. to fight fascism so Bonheoffer would have a say in rebuilding Germany. Hitler had him hanged on a piano wire. My (Christian) Uncle and Cousin also spoke against Hitler and were jailed for many years.
Sin is the human condition or Jehovah/Jesus/Buddha/Allah wouldn’t have to insist that we behave. Since the majority of religions tell us to do onto others as we would have done to us, can we pray for God to give us the love, wisdom and courage to move forward from the horrors of the past and start doing so today? Since my sister quenches the thirsty, and her husband feeds the hungry, I’m going back to caring visiting my prisoners and orphans…

I pray in Jesus name ONLY, its my faith. I believe He is God. You don’t, thats fine. I have been praying everyday at my church for issues all around the world, our church helps cities all over the WORLD, orphans, we have an elderly ministry. We are not better than anyone, nor perfect, but we try to follow Jesus footsteps knowing it would be imnpossible to be 100% perfect. people make mistakes… So, I do pray to GOD and HE answers. We should pray for wisdom everyday, thats a given. People obviously have a VERY WRONG idea of Christianity, you think Christians follow the pope. NO! He represents catholics which is a denomination VERY different from many others which are united. We do not need the pope to tell us what to believe in. We read the Bible ourselves which is what Jesus wants us to do, not take the word of men. Each person will give account of their actions at the end. We need to learn the Bible and pray ourselves, not ask others to pray for us and leave it at that. This subject is very complex. I am happy to have participated. Thank you all

I received an e-mail that you replied to my comment, I guess you replied to this page and the article…
I appreciate Rabbi Schmuley making a comment about gay marriage, etc… and I love to hear the different points of view, even though as a Christian, there is only one point of view to me that is valid.
What I don’t appreciate is the derrogatory and rather insulting tone when referring to Christianity and to Ms California.
First of all nobody could ever represent Jesus perfectly, that does not exist! Everyone falls short at one time or another, we learn, REPENT (repent means you know what you did was wrong and you apologize and make restitution for your mistake. Its one of the main principles of Christianity, there is forgiveness as long as you repent!), we grow and move on. So, Carrie is Christian, she is not perfect, Jesus is the perfect one.
So, why attack Christianity, which is what this article is doing, when with all sincerity, everyone knows this:
Nobody is perfect or will ever be. We all have our beliefs and should not attack each others. Rabbi Schmuley obviously does not understand or believe that Jesus is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, therefore he does not understand or tries to understand Christianity properly. He loves to mock it and make it “look bad”. Its obvious. And sad. But when asked directly he tries to “pretend” he is not hostile toward Christians, but he is!
We need to stop attacking each other, but pray more so God can REALLY reveal Himself, that is what Abraham did. Abraham was not jewish. He was a faithful man, faithful to God. THEN God started a relationship with Abraham. Abraham was a God fearing MAN, and his heart was in the right place. And eventually came judaism, and all the festivals and etc… and Jesus was Gods last manifestation as far as Abrahams faith. Anyone whose heart is in the right place and honestly seeks Gods face like Abraham did,and fears God will find God and the truth about Jesus, our messiah.
So, no rabbi, or even pastor, is ever 100% right, unless he believes the right thing is the cross of Christ. Aside from this, everyone is wrong.Je se quis Jesus es Dieux!
